Giveaway For Mommies of Angel Babies

If you have followed this blog for any significant amount of time or know me in real life you will know that Nellie is not my only baby. There was one very small but very special life that lived within my womb before her. That little one was only known to daddy and I as “Green Bean”.

We found out we were pregnant in early December 2007. We were as excited as brand new expectant parents could be. We loved Green Bean with all of our hearts. Our baby was not ours to keep, however. After 3 weeks of being little Green Bean’s mommy and daddy, our little one had to go. We lost GB to miscarriage on December 22nd, 2007.

That’s when this blog was born. I used it as a semi-private and anonymous way to cope with my miscarriage. Even though I know have a beautiful, healthy baby girl I never stop thinking about my first – my Green Bean.
I was browsing on Etsy earlier and started looking up things under the keyword “miscarriage”. I landed mostly on jewelry – beautiful pieces of sterling silver and pewter and suddenly, something caught my eye.

A soft, lovely sculpture with the title: “We Were Three”. A featureless, rounded sculpture of a man embracing a woman from behind, and in the woman’s arms were a tiny little figure with wings. My breath caught in my throat, and tears welled up in my eyes. I clicked on the photo to enlarge it and the picture of the sculpture spoke to my heart. Without any expressions, this sculpture captured how I felt about our first baby. I felt it was beautiful and poignant that the father was included. Too often when a miscarriage occurs, the focus is on the mother of the child and how she’s doing.. Quite often the father can get overlooked. I think that many believe that since he wasn’t the one who was pregnant with the baby, he “gets over” it sooner or even that it’s not as significant a loss to you. I assure you, that’s just not the case. If you could have seen Josh’s devastation over the loss of Green Bean, there wouldn’t be a doubt in your mind about that.

I contacted the artist, D. Antonia. I let her know that her piece had touched me and spoken to me and that I would love to feature her art in a giveaway on my blog. She responded almost immediately. Her kindness and empathy toward my loss was apparent, and she said that she’d be delighted to host a giveaway here. Excited, we began to talk back and forth about the giveaway. The wonderful thing about D’s sculptures is that she will completely and utterly customize it to you and your loss. She has many different sculptures that revolve around baby loss though she does a wide variety of work aside from that. This is the piece that captured my attention:

We Were Three

The title alone was enough to choke me up: We Were Three. Anyone who has experienced the joy of a pregnancy, only to have it slip through your fingers can share in that sentiment. For a few fleeting moments, days, weeks or even months.. We Were Three.

She let me know that she could customize her artwork in any way one could want. She can color the people differently, add shimmer and color to the baby angel’s wings… Basically create a work of art to tell your story.

Here are just a few more of her beautiful pieces that caught my eye:

Never Ever Let Go

You can even honor beautiful twin angels:

Her artwork is 100% hand-sculpted from polymer clay and then glazed. They fit preciously in the palm of your hand. She promises that they will be shipped within seven business days of the close of the giveaway.

If her sculptures speak to you, I am truly sorry from the bottom of my heart. Mothers of angel babies have a unique bond; we are bound together in heartache and sorrow.

D is offering an angel sculpture of your choice up to a $35 value. The winner of this giveaway will get to pick one custom piece of art to have as their own. Here is how you can win:

  26. It took me a while to finally enter this because I'd tear up every time I started looking at her sculptures. And I didn't want everyone at work wondering why I was crying. There's 3 that I like. If I win, I'd choose between these: Never Ever Let Go, You Make Me Gleam, and Today I Got to Touch Stars. …oh hell, I'm about to cry again… :-/
