Why Baby Wear?

Did you know that carrying your baby..

  • creates confident parents -there’s no better feeling than when your baby is calm and content because you have met all her needs
  • allows you to safely move about with your baby regardless of terrain– you can stroll down uneven sidewalks, narrow lanes, walk up stairs, or climb mountain
  • is convenient- there is no awkwardness like when carrying a heavy plastic car seat with one arm!
  • enables better communication between you and your baby – (without your baby having to cry!) as you become attuned to her facial expressions and other gestures
  • provides security-access to food, warmth, and love
  • is good for your soul -it encourages you to get out and get some exercise and some fresh air into your lungs
  • makes discreet nursing possible-without having to find a place to sit
  • helps you to interact with your other children and hold your baby close at the same time– very practical if you have other little ones
  • allows you to decide who may touch or interact with your baby
  • aids digestion– the constant motion and the upright position eases acid reflux and colic
  • allows you to go places, together!- you can go anywhere and feel secure.
These bullet points were taken from the Sleepy Wrap website.

Why Sleepy Wrap?

Here are just ten of the 27 reasons advantages Sleepy has over other babywearing products…

  1. gives great support for little heads and necksespecially when your baby falls asleep
  2. your baby fits just perfectly every time! -no guessing how much room you will need to leave for you baby to fit inside without being too tight or too loose
  3. custom fit- simply tie the wrap carrier snug against your body and no matter what body type you are, it will fit!
  4. good quality fabric –heavier cotton knit with a touch of spandex-the ideal material for babywearing
  5. discreet nursing is no problemno need to take the baby out of the wrap baby carrier or use any special attachments for privacy
  6. your baby’s hips and legs are supported and not just hanging down
  7. no pressure points on your babyno pressure on developing hips or spines like other hard baby carriers which place pressure on your baby’s pelvis
  8. holds your baby highthe fabric bounces back unlike the t-shirt like material of other stretchy baby wraps to keep your baby snug against your chest
  9. durable -sturdy fabric that doesn’t stretch out or change shape with repeated washing or babywearing
  10. feels soft on your baby’s skin

Now, I’ve been a Moby Mama since the beginning because that’s pretty much the go-to answer for a beginner babywearer. I am by no means an expert, as this is just my 2nd babywearing product. I enjoyed my Moby, but I had my qualms with it. For one, I HATE the fact that I have to double-up the fabric. Two, once I wore Nellie in it, took her out and then put her back in, it had lost it’s “tightness” and I just had to readjust and rewrap and found it irritating. Three, I NEVER felt like I was wearing it right even though I followed all the instructions.

From the very first time I put on the Sleepy Wrap – before I even had Nellie in it – I knew that I was going to like it better. For one, you DON’T have to fold the fabric in half like the Moby. Two, it’s STRETCHY. AKA, Fat Girl Friendly. It’s comfortable, and I didn’t get a feeling of “OMG YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG.” I didn’t feel nearly as clumsy putting on the Sleepy as I did the Moby. I grabbed my babe and popped her in, and she was so snug against my chest it was wonderful!! With the Moby, she had the tendency to shift and sag but I walked around with her in the Sleepy for over an hour and she stayed as close to my chest and as high up as when I first put her in. It’s easier to put on and it’s more breathable which is really important if you want to babywear in the summertime. Nellie tolerates the Sleepy better.. I don’t know if it’s because the fabric is more stretchy and therefore more comfortable but she usually gets fussy within 20 minutes in the Moby but I can wear her forever in the Sleepy. One of the best parts is that I can take her out, and pop her right back in a little later and there is NO readjusting necessary!!!

The Sleepy Wrap, living up to its’ name.

I decided to show you guys how EASY the Sleepy is to wrap and use.. So here’s a little video. Enjoy my weird Valley Girl ponytail, my “mommy pooch” belly, and the fact that I have no makeup on. But I’m wearing my Dork shirt, so HOORAY!

But they do have a few more holds that you can try out, which you can see photos of in the photo gallery!
