Bobby Flay Cookbook Giveaway

Do you find yourself getting bored with the same recipes over and over? I definitely do. A typical “menu planning” list of mine looks like this:
Monday: Turkey chili
Tuesday: Beef and pepper soup
Wednesday: Spaghetti
Thursday: ???????
Friday: ????????????????????????????
Saturday: Chicken nuggets  hot dogs  Chinese Takeout
Sunday: Gummy bears off the floor

I struggle to find new and fun and tasty recipes to cook for my family. Bobby Flay’s “From My Kitchen to Your Table” offers over 125 new recipes to try. Bobby Flay is known best for his roles on several cooking TV shows, most famously the show Iron Chef. He owns several different restaurants. “From My Kitchen to Your Table” is full of rich photos and exciting recipes. The recipes are a little on the more complex side (like Roasted Turkey with Pomegranate Sauce and Wild Rice-Goat Cheese Dressing), so if you’re feeling fiesty and up for a challenge in the kitchen you definitely want to check this book out. It’s a little bit of an older cookbook (published in 1998) but it’s still definitely one for your collection.

Want to get your hands on a copy? You’re in luck. Stockland is giving away one copy of the cookbook to two readers, and entering is simple!

Use What You Know: A Business Idea Guide for Moms

During the weekend of BlogHer 2012, I connected with several women on Twitter as we all wallowed in our collective “not at BlogHer” misery. One of those women was Joyce Brewer, an Emmy award-winning TV journalist, mom, and writer of the eBook “Use What You Know: A Business Guide Idea for Moms”. Joyce created and hosts the website

Joyce’s book answers a question she was getting asked after starting her blog and video business: “How did you come up with your idea?” Her answer was that she relied on her skills as a TV journalist and new mom. The blend of those two things were what inspired her to create!

If you have ever had the desire to start up your own business, but weren’t sure where to find a great idea for one, you definitely NEED to read this book. It contains the testimonials of several inspiring women (Joyce herself included, of course! Did you know that she actually got to interview Oprah?! As in WINFREY??), and how they successfully built their businesses, giving them the freedom to make their own hours and be their own boss while having a career they loved!

One of my favorite parts about the guide is that it breaks each business success story into categories based on degrees, work experience, and background. For instance, Joyce’s story would appeal to people with a journalism, writing, or English background. Another business story is for women with a background in art, design, photography, etc. For me, it made it easy to find inspiration based on what my interests are. I don’t have a degree in anything, but my passion is with writing so naturally, I related best to Joyce’s business idea and story.

I really enjoyed reading this eBook, because it made me realize that even though I may not have an idea for a business YET, I could very well follow in the footsteps of mom entrepreneurs before me! This book is a great guide for any woman who has the desire to build their own career, but aren’t sure where to start.

So how can you get your hands on a copy of this eBook? Well, you could buy it (it retails for $12) OR you could WIN a copy right here on my blog!

Easy Canvas Prints Giveaway

I have a confession: I’m horrible about printing out photos. I have snapped thousands of pictures since Nellie was born – most of them coming from my iPhone since I got my hands on it. I don’t even remember the last time I actually used my digital camera. I’m just so lazy and so bad at ordering photos, I always forget, “oh yeah, I have pictures, I could print them and frame them and hang them on my wall”.

So when Easy Canvas Prints contacted me and basically offered to do the grunt work for me by providing me with a canvas on which a photograph of my choice could be printed I obviously was like YUP. Sounds great.

It’s super easy to order photos on Canvas Prints from this company – you can provide your own, or they actually have a gallery of beautiful prints that you can choose from. If you choose to create your own, you just upload your photo, choose your size, – they will position it for you – choose the type of wrap you want around it (standard wrap, gallery wrap, or framed) and that’s pretty much it. It’s super simple – the hardest part is choosing what photo you want to have printed on these beautiful canvases! If you find yourself struggling, Easy Canvas Prints has an idea gallery that you can browse if you’re in need of inspiration.

I decided to go with the 8×10 (another cool thing is that when you order, it gives you a size comparison so you can get an idea of how big your canvas will actually be) , and used a photo from our photo shoot with a local photographer a few months ago – one of my favorites from the shoot was a shot of Nellie playing in the water. The expression on her face is one of pure joy and it was a moment so beautifully captured, I knew I wanted it printed on something unique and fun.

My Canvas Print shipped really quickly, was nicely packaged, and when I opened it I was floored. It was such good quality, and so lovely that I was honestly shocked at how nice it turned out. Here is a photo, but the photo does not do it justice. Trust me. I have gotten so many compliments on it.

Kalorik Kristmas Giveaway – Coffee Maker

Hello my lovelies! I know I just ended a giveaway and I usually don’t do them so closely together like this, but with it being the holiday season and all I just couldn’t resist sharing something fabulous with you!

I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to review  a beautiful metallic 12-cup coffee maker in “Kalorik Red”. I’m a sucker for red appliances, though I have to admit – this is the first one I’ve ever owned.

Oooo.. Ahhh!

I love coffee. If I had my way in life, coffee would pretty much be flowing into my mouth 24 hours a day. However, I would probably die from caffeine poisoning. My point is that I love coffee. I had a standard Mr. Coffee pot in my house, so when I got my shiny new Kalorik I was beyond excited. One of the things I was the most excited about is that it’s PROGRAMMABLE. I’ve never owned a coffee pot that was programmable before, or had a digital LCD clock on it! I felt like I was moving up in the world. I love to program my coffee maker at night before I go to bed and wake up to the smell of freshly brewed java wafting from my kitchen. The Kalorik Coffee Maker also has an automatic 2-hour shutoff system, which is great if you’re like me and can’t ever remember whether or not you turned your coffee pot off. Then you get halfway to wherever you’re going and make your husband turn the car around just to make sure you turned the darn thing off. Yeah, not a problem with this bad boy. The pot also features a “pause and serve” function, and a nonstick “keep-hot plate” so your coffee isn’t going to get cold. Other features of the Kalorik coffee maker include:

  • Drip-free carafe
  • Transparent water tank
  • Blue backlit display
  • Cone filters (type 4)

Pretty much as soon as my coffee maker arrived, I got to work. The manual recommends that you run three cycles of hot water through before your first use. I anxiously awaited the cycles to go through and when it was time to taste my very first cup of coffee?

Heaven. Pure heaven. It made the coffee made in my old pot seem like dirt water. Mud. Worse than mud. I’m not even joking, this coffee pot made the coffee taste better. I love how pretty it looks on my counter and that it does not take up a lot of space. I live in an apartment, and counter space is scarce so every inch is precious. This coffee pot actually takes up less space and fits in my little “coffee maker nook” better than my old one!

Okay, okay. Enough with the gushing. What you’re all REALLY here for..

Kalorik is giving away a 12-cup programmable coffee maker to one Mommy Boots reader! Here’s how you can win…
